Changes to accommodation following the COVID-19 outbreak

Our campuses will remain open to support anyone for whom the University continues to be your home.

The following accommodation blocks constitute University accommodation:

  • In Colchester: South Courts; The Towers; Wolfson Court; The Houses; The Copse; The Meadows; University Quays.
  • In Southend: University Square.

The Government has set out specific guidance for students living in halls of residence regarding what to do if you need to self-isolate so please make sure you regularly review for updates. We also have useful information available regarding ordering food and other support services, plus the University will provide a free quarantine pack to those self-isolating.

Changes to our campus accommodation policy

Accommodation Essex have made changes to their rental policies in order to be as flexible as possible during the pandemic, which can be found in our Covid Commitment. This commitment is applicable to all students who have accepted an offer of a room in University owned or administered accommodation for the academic year 2021-22. It is intended to provide you with clarity and guidance on how pandemic related events might affect you and your liability during the period of your accommodation contract.

Off-campus accommodation

We really appreciate that many students do not live in University accommodation, living off campus in shared houses or in privately run units. Whilst the University cannot compel other landlords to follow suit, we are writing to all providers of student accommodation, informing them of the decision the University has taken and urging them to show similar flexibility.
