We are a specialist team providing policy and developing evidence-based policy, projects and initiatives to enhance student success; enabling and working with departments and other partners to achieve shared goals.
What we do
Supporting delivery of strategic objectives, for example, the Education Action Plan and the Access Agreement
Achieving Potential project: addressing attainment gaps at Essex
Supporting specific student groups, such as mature and commuters
Departmental student support; including Personal Tutors, Peer Mentors and Peer Mentor Coordinators
Coordination of Welcome - Student voice; including the NSS, focus groups, feedback and other surveys
Essex Crown programme of events; supporting a sense of belonging within the department for staff and students
Supporting student transition and engagement, including recruitment and training of the Project Workers
Other teams we work with
Strategic Planning and Change Section; support with departmental planning, monitoring and review of student access, continuation and success, data analysis and reporting
Organisational Development; training for staff (e.g. GTA inductions), sharing of good academic practice relating to inclusivity, assessment and feedback projects, Equality and Diversity matters, such as the Race Equality Charter.
Talent Development Centre; classes, clinics, workshops, online resources and peer-to-peer support and resources to improve students’ maths, writing, research, study skills and English language, as well as classes within the curriculum.
Student Support; provides services to students and guidance to staff; including wellbeing, accessibility, international services, Residence Life and the Funding team.
Students’ Union; student democratic representation, job and degree support, student feedback tools, targeted student community projects and activities.
Employability and Careers; support with employability skills, international mobility, careers advice, guidance and education, job advertisements, work placements, study abroad, internships, frontrunners, employability in the curriculum, the Big Essex Award.
