Services on campus

Important information - We have updated guidelines to support students and staff coming onto campus. Before coming to use any University facility please read the information about coming onto campus:

The following services are currently available on our campuses following the Covid-19 outbreak.

Colchester Campus

We are maintaining key services to keep our campuses open at all times.

  • The SU Shop - our on-campus convenience shop, operated by the Students’ Union, is open. The Store is operating a hatch service to help ensure social distancing.
  • The following Essex Food outlets are offering a take-away service:
  • Day Nursery – open to the children of key workers only - If you are a key worker as listed on the UK Government website please contact the nursery email nursery@essex.ac.uk as soon as possible.
  • Study areas - For information on computer availability go to the computers on campus section of the website. The following areas are available for study:
    • Silberrad – floors 1 and 3
    • Lab C – 4S.5.7
    • Lab A – 5.000
    • Lab G – 4N.4.3
    • Lab D – 4N.3.9
  • Post room - From Monday 6 April the Post Room counter will be open from 10am-3pm. 
  • Central stores are open every weekday from 10am – 2pm:
    • Providing maintenance products and spares for essential repairs
    • Providing PPE and other useful products to all staff still working on campus
    • Receiving essential parcels and deliveries for staff and students remaining on campus
    • Operating the Luggage Room to store student belongings

  • Accommodation, supported by essential services. If you have any queries regarding accommodation, please contact our Student Services Hub team by telephone or email or our out-of-hours guidance.
  • The on-campus GP surgery will be closed from Monday 6 April. Telephone consultations will still be available and you’ll be able to submit requests for prescriptions via email or using the NHS App. New arrangements for face-to-face consultations and other guidance will be published on the practice website.

Car parking on our Colchester Campus until further notice.

Parking is available at North Campus (where electric charge points are also available); the Sports Centre, Car Park A and Valley car park.

The temporary and overflow car parks near the Colchester entrance and the multi-storey car park are all closed.

Park Road will be closed at weekends and for the upcoming bank holiday, so Car Park A and Valley car park will not be open at these times.

Southend Campus

The Gateway Building and The Forum are closed but students can still access services remotely including the Student Services Hub, the Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Team, Library support and IT helpdesk. Your department will also continue to provide advice and support about your course and learning.

Better broadband at our accommodation

Our broadband provider, Glide, has increased the connection speed to 100Mbps for all students in accommodation at our Colchester and Southend Campuses from now until the end of their tenancy. Glide want to support students accessing online learning resources from their campus accommodation and there is no extra charge for the upgraded package.
