Choose the right tool for your form, poll or survey, then sign in with your Essex account.

Which tool should I use?

If you need...	Use	Why
A quick poll, RSVP, or simple form (no complex branching)	Microsoft Forms	Fast to set up, works in your browser, and shows results in real time.
A complex academic survey with advanced logic, panels or detailed analysis	Qualtrics (for academic use only)	Designed for teaching and research – includes powerful logic, distribution tools, and advanced data analysis features.

Tip: If you’re unsure, start in Microsoft Forms and switch to Qualtrics only if your academic project requires its advanced features.

Create simple surveys, quizzes and polls in minutes. View responses live and export to Excel.

Good for: quick feedback, event RSVPs, short staff/student forms, internal process forms.
Not for: complex branching, panel management, or in-depth academic research (use Qualtrics instead).

Get started

Qualtrics is the University’s academic survey platform, available only for teaching and research purposes.

It should not be used for administrative, commercial, or operational surveys.

Good for: academic surveys with advanced branching, logic, or analysis; data cleaning/merging; statistical research.
Not for: staff engagement surveys, feedback on services, event registrations, or operational data collection (use Microsoft Forms instead).

Important notes

Always use essex.eu.qualtrics.com to sign in with your Essex account — this prevents duplicate accounts.
If you think you’ve created a duplicate, email Commercial Applications for help.
Email sending limit: up to 500 emails in any 7-day period. Learn more
Leaving Essex: transfer ownership of any active surveys before you leave.
