What you need to know - UK students

  • The UK Government provides eligible UK students with a tuition fee loan.
  • You only start repaying your loan once you earn over £27,295 per year, £2,274 per month or £524 per week (before tax and other deductions).
  • You repay 9% of earnings over £27,295 (if you earn £28,295, you pay 9% of £1,000).
  • Our scholarships and bursaries ensure you have the financial support to help you succeed.

What you need to know - EU students

  • Since 1 August 2021, if you're an EU student starting a course with us, you will be considered an international student for fees purposes, and will not be eligible for UK student loans (unless you have settled or pre-settled status) For more information please see our changes after Brexit webpage.
  • We've introduced scholarships for EU students joining us in October 2022 worth up to £5,000, visit our scholarship finder for further information.

What you need to know - All fee statuses

  • Our admissions team will assess your fee status when you apply to Essex. If you are successful in gaining an offer, your fee status will be confirmed in your offer letter. Visit our fee status page for more information.
