Children's sports camps and courses

We want to keep kids as active and healthy as you.

That's why our team are qualified, professional and friendly, offering a fun and nurturing environment for your little ones to grow, develop new skills and make friends.

We offer a range of sport courses for kids to sign up to, from karate to tennis and more. Plus we also run CHUMS holiday camps which are open to all children ages 5 to 14 years during school holidays.

CHUMS Holiday Camp

Our popular CHUMS Holiday Camps are open to all children aged 5 – 14 years.

Our Essex Sport team places the safety of your children at the forefront of everything they do. Our team is qualified, professional and friendly, offering a fun and nurturing environment for your little ones to grow, develop new skills and make friends.

Our CHUMS Holiday Camp utilises the fantastic facilities available here at our University of Essex, Colchester Campus, including the Essex Sport Arena, which offers 21 courts suitable for basketball, netball, futsal and more!

Easter CHUMS key information

Dates

Week 1: Monday 8 April - Friday 12 April 2019

Week 2: Monday 15 April - Thursday 18 April 2019

Times

Drop off: 8.30 - 9.00 am

Pick up: 5.00 - 5.15 pm

Early drop off and late pick up is available for an additional supervision fee of £2.50. This will be from 7.45 - 8.30am and 5.15 - 6.00 pm. For both options, you will be required to pay £5. To add early drop off or late pick up to your CHUMS booking, please contact our Sport Centre Reception on 01206 873250.

CHUMS Holiday Camps

Day bookings:
Student / Staff: £22.50 per child
Public: £25 per child

Week long booking:
Student / Staff: £90 per child
Public: £100 per child

Four day week booking:
Student / Staff: £67.50 per child
Public: £75 per child

Activities

Activities will include professional coaching in a variety of popular sports such as tennis, football, basketball, and other fun team-based games.

Mini CHUMS offers a personalised program tailored to children aged 5 - 8 years old, with a fun range of different sports including group games, tag games and craft sessions.

Junior CHUMS, for ages 8 - 14 years, provides a fun-filled bespoke programme of over 25 different sports which include favourites such as football, touch rugby, climbing, camouflage and kwik cricket, as well as offering professional coaching in tennis provided by our LTA Accredited coaches.

Children will have the opportunity to improve their skills across a variety of sports and learn how to play as a team, but most importantly, they will have lots of fun and meet new friends.

How to book 

Online

Bookings for CHUMS can now be made online

Before commencing the online booking process, please ensure you have the correct email address and PIN number for your child.  If you don’t have this number to hand, please contact us on 01206 873250 or email scadmin@essex.ac.uk

  1. Log in to our online booking system using the details provided for your child (you will need to log in separately for each child using relevant PIN).
  2. Select 'Make a booking'.
  3. Select the required CHUMS option from the list, such as, Summer CHUMS Week 1.
    1. If you would like to book for the whole week, please choose the ‘Full Week’ option. On the next screen, you will only need to select the first day to book for the full week.
    2. If you would like to book individual days, please select the required day. Please note, you wil need to book each day separately.
  4. You can add multiple bookings to your basket and proceed with payment when ready.
  5. You can view your bookings via the ‘Manage Bookings’ tab at the top of the page.

 

Sports Centre Reception

Parents can also book via the Sports Centre reception by either visiting or telephoning on 01206 873250, and paying using a debit or credit card. Parents will also need to complete an application and consent form (.pdf) and return to reception.

Terms and conditions

What to bring

Children should bring a packed lunch. Some of the activities take place outside, so wet weather clothing or a change of clothes is recommended.

Tennis

Two tennis camps for Mini Red (5 to 8 years) and Mini Orange / Green (9 to 12 years) will be running during Easter.

Run by LTA Level 4 Tennis Coach, Christopher Harris, this dedicated tennis camp will include a range of fun games and activities, as well as working on racket and technical skills to enhance match play.

Basketball

The session will take place in our state-of-the-art Essex Sport Arena and cover a range of activities, such as shooting, passing and defending, ending the day with group games and matches to develop teamwork and communication skills.

Suitable for ages 5 to 12 years.

Futsal

Experience the fast and exciting game originating from South America. With an emphasis on technique and creativity under pressure, the benefits of futsal are widely recognised, with many of the World’s top football stars (like Messi and Neymar) growing up playing the game.

Our Futsal camp will help players improve their control of the ball, learn new skills and put those skills into action with a mini tournament to end the session.

Suitable for ages 5 to 12 years.
