Making a difference locally

At Essex Sport, we believe in making a difference locally and regionally both supporting grass routes sport and fitness, and in giving back to the region through use of our facilities and equipment.

Use our facilities and visit us

The Sports facilities at our Colchester Campus, include a state-of-the-art gym, fitness classes, tennis and squash courts, outdoor pitches and much more. As well as outstanding facilities for sport, we also have the Essex Sport Arena - built to international sporting standards, it is also available to hire as a large event space.

We also provide sports holiday clubs for children too. Our CHUMS sports camps for eight to fourteen-year-olds welcome children during the Easter, summer and Christmas holidays.

Come and watch our athletes at the Essex Sport Arena

Here at the Arena we have an array of different types of events to interest everyone. including basketball, volleyball, netball, badminton and futsal; with seating for up to 1,655 spectators, there's always something on for you to see and do

Enhancing the region's sporting offer

At Essex, we recognise the part we must play in supporting the community through sport, and recognise how our first-class partnerships with the region can support the local community through sport. Our newly created partnership with Tendring Volleyball and the Essex Rebels, and our FA High Performance Women's Football Centre, supporting future coaches for the Women's game ensure that not only do our staff and students benefit from the work we do but so do our surrounding towns, villages and cities.

Find us out and about in the community

Working closely with our partners, Active Essex, School Game Organisers, Colchester Council, and national governing bodies, we provide a cohesive, educational approach to sport, health, and professional development across five focus sports: football, futsal, basketball, tennis, and climbing; drawing on the University's combined resources and knowledge. We regularly visit schools and colleges to talk to children about the benefits of PE and sport education. You will also often find us at a range of different events within the community promoting the work we do.
