Essex Sport Junior

Sport Courses

Junior Karate

Sport courses for 3 to 16 year olds

We offer a range of after-school and weekend introductory sport courses, specifically designed to help your child learn core skills and progress their abilities in their chosen sport.

Courses run for 9 to 12 weeks during each academic school term and are instructed by our qualified, DBS checked coaches.

We also offer drop-in sessions on a 'pay-as-you-go' basis; a great, flexible way to try out a new activity.

Essex Sport on social media:

Sport activities for under 18-year-olds temporarily suspended

Following a full review of all Essex Sport activities, and after careful consideration, we have sadly had to take the decision to temporarily suspend all activities for under 18-year-olds.

We understand this is deeply disappointing news and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. We will directly contact all those affected.

Please read the full statement for more information.

Junior courses

We plan to bring back climbing courses in Spring 2021.

Utilising our brand new climbing wall, our varied and fun-filled sessions provide the perfect spring-board to get into climbing.

Led by nationally qualified instructors, children will learn the basics of bouldering and safety, challenging themselves and reaching new heights.

We plan to bring back dance courses in Spring 2021.

Run in collaboration with our student Essex Blades dance squad, this course will introduce children to a wide range of styles; fusing street, ballet, and modern moves.

Classes have been designed to be high-energy and fun, providing the opportunity to perform and progress in an encouraging environment.

Did you know that karate will be at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo for the first time?

Designed for those who would like to try karate and not confident with the moves, this is an ideal sport for children to build confidence, balance, coordination, discipline, concentration, and courtesy, while learning basic self-defence skills.

Delivered by our LTA qualified coaching team, our tennis courses are split into four age groups, tailoring the programme to suit all abilities and skill levels.

Our state-of-the-art tennis courts are covered by a bubble during winter, allowing play to continue year-round.

More information can be found on the Junior tennis webpage.

Pay and Play sessions

We plan to bring back futsal and badminton Pay and Play in Spring 2021.

Our 'pay as you go' sessions in basketball, futsal and badminton are a great way for your child to try a new activity, develop social skills and meet new friends, without committing to a full course.

These sessions are popular, so we recommend booking in advance!

SSE Wildcats Futsal (girls only)

We plan to bring back futsal in Spring 2021.

SEE Wildcats Futsal, created exclusively for girls aged 5 to 12 years, provides a fantastic first experience of football in a fun, safe and engaging environment.

No experience is required. and all girls receive a Wildcats activity book to track their progress!

Autumn Term 2020

All courses and Pay and Play sessions are held at the Colchester Campus and take advantage of the fantastic sport facilities we have at the university.

Our Junior courses are a little streamlined this term, as we get things back up and running again. We will have our full range of courses and Pay and Play sessions, including climbing, dance, badminton, and futsal, available in the Spring Term.
