Tuition fees for EU and International students

Following the UK's decision to withdraw from the European Union, the Government has confirmed that EU students starting in 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 will not be eligible for UK government funding (unless you have settled or pre-settled status). For more information please see our changes after Brexit webpage.

For academic years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, EU students will be charged fees at the International student rate as outlined below.

2022-2023 fees

Our 2022-2023 fees for new EU and International students are listed below. Our courses are sorted into Fee Bands by department/school.

Please be aware that these are the general fee bands covering the majority of courses however there are some exceptions, including our Health and Social Care lab-based courses and accelerated degrees. Check the course details in our Course Finder for specific course fee information.

Accelerated Courses

For students commencing an accelerated degree course with Edge Hotel School in academic year 2022-2023, the tuition fee for new EU and International students will be £21,231.

Students on a two-year accelerated course achieve the same academic qualification as a more traditional three-year degree, and could save over £10,638 in tuition fees over the duration of their course.

Study abroad and placement years

Study abroad year

If you are starting your course in academic year 2022-2023 and you are opting to include a study abroad year into your program, you will pay 15% of the standard tuition fee for that year.

Placement year

If you are starting your course in academic year 2022-2023 and you are opting to include an industrial or clinical placement year into your program, you will pay 20% of the standard tuition fee for that year.

Annual fee changes

For students commencing their studies at the University of Essex in the 2022-2023 academic year, fees will increase for each academic year of study. For full-time undergraduate students with an international fee status, your programme of study will increase by 5% in 2023-2024. This is subject to review for each subsequent academic year.
