The Big Essex Award is the University’s way of celebrating extracurricular achievement, recognising your commitment to personal development on your transcript (HEAR or FAR). Look out for 3, 4 and 5 unit activities marked with an orange shield when exploring activities on Chart My Path.

How the Big Essex Award works:

Complete activities worth 3, 4 or 5 units
Log your units for verification
Collect enough units to reach:

Bronze – 5 units
Silver – 10 units
Gold – 15 units
Platinum – 20 units

The Big Essex Award is transforming to better support your future career and life beyond Essex. A new award will launch in October 2026, so the 2025-2026 Academic Year is your last chance to achieve the current Big Essex Award.
