Medical and mental health emergencies

Medical help 

If you need urgent medical support, there are a number of options:

  • The University Health Centre can provide help for emergencies during opening hours
  • Walk in Centre offers access to a range of treatments, including dealing with minor illnesses and injuries. No appointment is necessary.
  • call your GP (doctor) service
  • call the NHS 111 helpline
  • go to the Accident and Emergency Department of the hospital nearest your campus:

You can also search for your nearest NHS services such as local doctors, dentists, pharmacies, hospitals or Walk in Centres.

In a life-threatening emergency please call campus security.

Mental health help

If you need to speak to someone urgently about your mental health, or someone you are concerned about, do not delay in seeking help.

Contact your doctor (GP) using the out-of-hours service if necessary, or attend the Accident and Emergency department at your nearest hospital.

Alternatively:

  • call the Essex Partnership University Trust line (urgent mental health support) which is open 24 hours a day on 0330 726 1800
  • call the Samaritans on 116 123
  • in a life-threatening emergency please call campus security
