At East15 Loughton, we feel it’s about learning, growing, embracing adventure, seizing opportunities, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. East15 students can enjoy a wealth of social clubs and activities in the Epping Forest Area; that’s if you can tear yourself away from the campus!

1. Copped Hall

Copped Hall is a fine Georgian mansion that is currently under restoration. It is superbly sited on a ridge overlooking its landscaped park. The Copped Hall Trust’s main aim is to protect the site, restore the mansion and its gardens for educational, cultural and community benefits. Whilst Copped Hall and its gardens are private, it is open for a plethora of advertised events such as tours and various productions – you can see all the events on offer via their events page!

2. Epping Ongar railway

Step back in time and experience the romance of travel in bygone times as you pass through picturesque countryside, beautiful forest, and historic towns. The Epping Ongar Railway is the longest heritage railway in Essex and the closest to London, easily accessible via the tube network. They are also the only heritage line that runs on a former part of the tube network! You can check their events page for details of enthusiast and family events that are held throughout the year.

3. Epping Forest

For those days when you want to escape campus life, the Epping Forest Trails could be your sanctuary! Cycle along the fabulous forest paths, breathe in the fresh air, and reboot. You will also be delighted to know that cycle hire is available!

4. Sports centres

There are many sport and leisure centres in the area to help you stay physically active and emotionally engaged in fitness and wellbeing. You may wish to check out: Places Leisure, New City Fitness, and Snap Fitness – no matter which you chose, these places create a place for everyone to keep healthy and active! 

5. Corbett theatre

You can always meet new people and support your peers by watching a public performance at the Corbett Theatre. You could also take the tube and watch a show in London, or if you want to explore something further from campus, you could travel by train to visit Southend and our Clifftown Theatre!

6. Learn a new language with ‘Languages for All’

Expand your horizons and boost your degree by learning a new language… for free! Dive into Languages for All and take your pick – Japanese, Arabic, German, Russian, French, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, or even British Sign Language. Trust us, ordering street food in three languages? That’s next-level life skills unlocked!

7. Roding Valley

Take a stroll around Roding Valley Meadows Nature Reserve, and visit the largest remaining species-rich water meadow in Essex with its famous display of wildflowers and wonderful mosaic of habitats!
