We Are Essex

Georgi's story

Georgi Agov

"The times when I’ve felt most disappointed and down are the times that made me realise so many important things in life."

My aspirations in life are all different, but generally learning languages, travelling, meeting new people, dancing, improving myself and learning new things. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved so far. Before I came to England my biggest dream was to be able to speak in English, as my English was very poor, and right now I want to be as fluent in English as I am in Spanish.

Just last week I went to a Latin night for the first time. I was able to improve my bachata and salsa dancing skills there. In my first year I was also really involved in the Bulgarian Society, because I’m Bulgarian, and with them I did a lot of charity work and events on campus. The charity we supported most was the Red Cross in Bulgaria, but also animal charities here in England.

If I could give myself advice a year ago I would tell myself to be a bit more patient, and not expect too much from people. When I look back at the past 2-3 years when I’ve been here at Essex, the times when I’ve felt most disappointed and down are the times that made me realise so many important things in life, which I really appreciate now.
