Welcome to Essex! Follow these five quick steps to set up your IT access, stay secure, and begin working smoothly.

Step 1 — Get your IT account

You’ll receive an email when your account is ready.

Get your IT account details online
Change your password as soon as your account is active. You’ll only need to update it again if you choose to, or if we ask you to for security reasons

Multifactor authentication (MFA) protects your account. You'll be asked to set it up the first time you sign in to Microsoft 365 services.

Use Outlook and Microsoft Teams on desktop, mobile or online.

Sign in at Office.com with your Essex username (e.g. username@essex.ac.uk) to access Microsoft 365 apps — including your email and calendar — online.
Manage shared mailboxes and distribution lists
Check your email quarantine for blocked messages
Install Microsoft 365 (free for staff) on your personal devices
Sign in to AppsAnywhere for additional software

eduroam – secure wifi on campus using your Essex email and password
VPN (GlobalProtect) – only for systems that require remote access (pre-installed on University laptops); can also be installed on personal devices.
