Life Sciences

Our facilities

Coral in the Red SeaOur School of Life Sciences has state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for conducting research in the life sciences and for training undergraduates and research students. Over two-thirds of our research was rated as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ (REF 2021) and our facilities are wide-ranging because we cover a wide range of sub-disciplines within the Life Sciences.

Our School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering is supported by excellent facilities. We are served by a gigabit Ethernet LAN and we have our own gigabit backbone; standard network connectivity is 100Mbit/second.

Psychology

 Centre for Brain Science

It’s a purpose-built centre to house state-of-the-art equipment that allows staff to directly measure and modulate brain activity, as well as a range of equipment to measure eye movements and various indices of physiological response.

The centre also won a Sustainable Developments award in the 2008 Colchester 2020 and RIBA Architectural Awards, and is one of the most environmentally sustainable buildings at our Colchester Campus.
