Undergraduate

Most of our Undergraduate Bachelor degree courses will consider:

• BBC - BBB from A-levels;
• BBB from STPM;
• a pass in all subjects in the UEC Senior Middle Level examinations with a minimum of five subjects at B4 or above
• ATAR 80.00 or above.

Postgraduate Taught

Many of our Postgraduate Taught Masters will consider applicants with 2.2 or GPA 2.70 or above from Bachelor degree. Some courses may have higher entry requirements as well as other admissions criteria. For entry to Research degrees, please refer to the entry requirements for the course that you are interested in. 
An undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK 2:2 (see the information above), and a master’s degree with a good grade is required for most PhD programmes, in addition to a well-developed research proposal in a field in which we can offer supervision. Please have a read through our information for PhD applicants and check the course details for your chosen programme for further information about entry criteria.

Our South East Asia Scholarship scheme offers scholarships worth £3,000 for undergraduate students from South East Asian countries. In order to qualify for this scholarship, applicants must actively make Essex their firm choice by 15 September 2024. Our Vice-Chancellor's Global Talent Scholarship is a competitive scholarship offering successful candidates a 50% tuition fee discount on their tuition fees for the first year of study. Our Academic Excellence International Masters Scholarship Scheme offers a £4,000 discount to postgraduate students from Malaysia achieving a CGPA of 3.25 or above.

The GREAT Scholarship programme, a joint initiative by the British Council and UK Government, offers postgraduate scholarships worth £10,000. The scholarships are open to applications from Malaysian students joining us for a one-year taught Masters programme in October 2024. The application deadline is 31 May 2024. Our Essex Law School is recognised by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board Malaysia. In addition to the UK Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC), our students have successfully progressed onto the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) in Malaysia after graduating with an LLB from Essex.

We offer a Law Degree Transfer Programme to students from our partner institutions in Malaysia.

BPP University graduate pathway

If you wish to professionally train to become a barrister after graduation, as an Essex LLB graduate you will receive an exclusive conditional offer to study the Barrister Training Course (BTC) (external link) with BPP University - entry requirements and conditions apply. As an Essex graduate, you'll also receive a £1,000 bursary towards your tuition on the BTC.
