Language, Literature, and Media Departmental Induction 2026
Welcome to our department
Your department induction is an essential part of Welcome Week. It is a great opportunity to meet key members of staff and gives you the chance to get to know your fellow students who will be studying on your course with you. We expect you to attend as you will receive important information to help you start your university experience.
More information about your induction will be sent to your Essex email nearer the time. Remember to check this regularly for dates, times and further details.
Joint-honours degrees
Studying more than one subject? If you're studying a joint degree, you should access key support through your home department. If you're not sure which is your home department, you can find out on MyEssex.

An essential introductory seminar to introduce your tutors and other Foundation Year students. This event will cover how your Foundation Year will be delivered and what we expect from you as a student, giving you all the information you need ahead of your timetabled sessions the following week. |

Our introductory seminars will provide an overview of how we approach teaching your subject here at Essex. We’ll also share what you can expect from your course - and what we expect from you - so you can feel confident and ready for your first timetabled sessions next week.
These sessions are an important part of your induction, so we are expecting everyone to come along. It’s the perfect way to start your journey with us!
