Undergraduate sport scholars: There is a dedicated section within the Athlete Village at our Colchester campus for our undergraduate sports scholars. This is in Frinton Court and application to stay here is managed through our Performance Sport Manager, Susy Davies at performancesport@essex.ac.uk

Applications for our sports scholarships and bursaries for the 2026-27 academic year have now closed, and will reopen for the 2027-28 academic year in October 2026. Successful awards will only be offered subject to acceptance on a course at our Colchester Campus. Please be sure to read through the requirements and terms and conditions ahead of applying.
We offer fee waiver scholarships up to 100%, cash bursaries plus additional support packages are available to financially support our sports athletes.
Applicable to athletes playing at academy, county, national or international level in the UK or equivalent in your home country.

The deadline for tennis scholarship applications for 2026-27 closed at the end of May 2026, but will reopen October 2026 for the 2027-28 academic year.
Awards are offered based on successful course applications at the University of Essex, Colchester campus. It's crucial to meet the academic entry conditions for your chosen course to be eligible for a sports scholarship.

Nigel Parsons - Head Coach, Performance Tennis
Nigel Parsons has been coaching high-performance tennis since 1998, following a successful playing career, and brings more than two decades of experience in athlete development to the University of Essex. As Head Coach of Performance Tennis, Nigel leads the Essex programme while also running the Performance Programme at Redbridge Tennis Centre and serving as Performance Liaison Officer for Essex Tennis, placing him at the centre of the county and regional performance pathway.
Working with county, regional and national-level players, Nigel is highly regarded for his long-term athlete development approach, technical expertise and ability to support players balancing academic study with elite training demands. His close links with Essex Tennis and the wider performance network ensure Essex student-athletes benefit from aligned coaching standards, competition opportunities and clear progression routes, making the programme an attractive destination for ambitious UK and international tennis players.
