Serious about physical health, mental health, and sport
The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences provides cutting-edge programmes in sport and exercise science, sports performance and coaching, physiotherapy and sports therapy.
At Essex you can study a range of courses relating to sport, health and rehabilitation. We offer undergraduate and Masters degree courses, Continuing Professional Development pathways, and postgraduate research programmes in a range of subject areas from physiotherapy to sports science.
Our three research groups explore basic science questions alongside projects with strong societal impact. The groups have received funding from a range of prestigious organisations such as the Economic and Social Research Council, International Olympic Committee, World Anti-Doping Agency, Sport England, Rugby Football Union, and British Heart Foundation.
We have an outstanding reputation for both education and research. We were ranked 9th in the Times Good University Guide for Sports Science in 2018, and 13th for research intensity in the REF2014, with many research activities rated as 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent'. We consistently rank highly for both student satisfaction (91% of our sports science students expressed overall satisfaction with their course in NSS 2019) and employability (Top for graduate employability in sport science in TGUG 2019).
Whatever your path, you'll find an active and engaged community of sports and therapy professionals, who will help you develop the skills you need for your future.
