Masters scholarships

Latin American Scholarship (including the Caribbean)

If you're from Latin America or the Caribbean and studying for our MA Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling or our MA Translation and Professional Practice, you could be eligible for £5,000 through our Latin American Scholarship. There are five scholarships available.

Applications are now open and close on 12th June 2020. 


Chinese-English Translation Scholarship

If you hold an unconditional offer of admission to one of our postgraduate Chinese Translation and Interpreting Programmes, you could be eligible for £1,000 through our Chinese-English Translation Scholarship. There are five scholarships available. 

All relevant course applications received by 31 May 2019 will be automatically considered for this scholarship. These scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit.

PhD scholarships

University of Essex Doctoral Scholarships

Our University of Essex Doctoral Scholarships support talented PhD students pushing boundaries in their field of study. There are 34 awards in total to be granted across our Social Sciences, Humanities and Science and Health faculties for 2018.

If you have an excellent academic background and the potential for future achievement then you could be eligible.

University of Essex Social Sciences Doctoral Scholarships

Want to do a PhD? Are you a high achiever? Apply for our University of Essex Social Sciences Doctoral Scholarships to receive a fee waiver or discount, doctoral stipend, training bursary and Proficio funding for three years of your studies.

Essex Doctoral Training Centre

Our University is an Economics and Social Research Council (ESRC) Doctoral Training Centre and has 16 fully-funded studentships available across 22 doctoral pathways. There are pathways available in linguistics.

CHASE Doctoral Training Partnership

The University, along with six partner institutions, is a member of CHASE: Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-East England, which has been awarded £17m from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to fund PhD studentships over a five year period.

Applicants for doctoral study in Language and Linguistics at Essex can apply to CHASE for AHRC studentships through the department. Funding covers fees, maintenance and professional development opportunities during your PhD.
