In Introduction to Legal Theory, you will delve into the general principles of legal philosophy and be encouraged to understand various contemporary writers on the subject. This module aims to provide insight into how and why the law evolves.

Introduction to Law introduces you to the general principles of the legal system, offering an understanding of how the law operates in practice. This includes exploring the foundations of the legal system, such as the law-making process, court hierarchy, and statutory interpretation. You will also engage with substantive areas of law, applying your skills and processes to real-world and hypothetical scenarios.

Understanding People and Society familiarises you with key theories and concepts in Sociology, Criminology, Psychoanalysis, and Psychosocial studies. Through this module, you will explore the relevance of these theories in contemporary social issues. Emphasis is placed on criminological theory and its application to modern society, as well as developing a Sociological Imagination through debates on current social issues based on the work of key social theorists. Additionally, you will use psychoanalysis to examine how individuals interact within society, considering the mutual influence between individuals and institutions. Expert guest speakers will periodically contribute to lectures and seminars.

All modules will provide opportunities to develop academic skills, which are further reinforced in the Research and Academic Development Skills module.
