Business and Economics Pathway

The Business and Economics Pathway is designed to equip you with foundational knowledge for progression onto a course within Essex Business School or the Department of Economics.

Throughout the pathway, you’ll develop skills in academic writing, collaborative working, giving presentations, and reflecting on your own academic performance.

You’ll learn:

  • The basics of business setup and processes including financial and marketing strategies, investment appraisal, and market research.
  • The necessary mathematical and statistical skills, from basic arithmetic to advanced concepts like differentiation and hypothesis testing, crucial for real-world application in economic and business contexts.
  • Topics including corporate responsibility, innovation, international management, demand and supply, market structures and fiscal policies.

The Business and Economics Pathway forms your foundation year (which is the first year of an integrated four-year course). Upon successful completion of your foundation year, you'll automatically progress to year one of your chosen undergraduate degree.

There are three business degrees to choose from which include a foundation year. For more information and to apply, explore the courses below.
