Elections to Honorary Degrees and Honorary Fellowships Committee


Nominations are sought for one member of permanent academic staff who has a contract of employment commencing at least 20 working days prior to the call for nominations and whose contract extends to at least 31 July 2025.

The Vacancy

Following the end of term of Professor Vicky Joffe, as the Faculty of Science and Health representative on the Honorary Degrees and Honorary Fellowships Committee (HDHFC), nominations are invited from Senate for a representative from the above Faculty for a period of three years (2023-24 to 2025-26).

Nominations

Nomination forms must be signed by the nominee and by two electors, one of whom must be from a department/school different from that of the nominee. Nominees are requested to give a brief biography and statement in support of their nomination, in not more than 350 words, on the pro forma on the second page of the nomination form. Nominees must be a permanent member of academic staff in the Faculty of Science and Health who have a contract of employment commencing at least 20 working days prior to the call for nominations and whose contract extends to at least 31 July 2025.

 

Deadline

The closing date for nominations is Wednesday 15 November 2023.  Nominations must reach elections@essex.ac.uk, by 5pm on that date.

 

Date of election

Should a ballot be necessary, ballot information will be sent by email on Thursday 16 November 2023 to those who are eligible to vote.

The date of election shall be Friday 1 December 2023.

Acceptance of the membership of HDHFC is construed as acceptance of the Governor Code of Conduct.

The successful candidate in each election will be required to complete all the Essential Training as set out in the Essential Training Policy prior to the first meeting taking place.

Each successful candidate will be required to submit a personal details form, equality and diversity monitoring form and a register of interest declaration upon appointment.

The formal committee meeting will take place on Thursday 8 February 2023, however a Nominations Review will take place early in the Spring term.
