Research project

It all starts in the womb

A woman in a red dress, with her head out of shot, standing with her hands on a pregnant bump.

The parent’s ability to respond appropriately to the infant’s communicative signals and their emotional sensitivity are key factors in the child’s cognitive and socio-emotional development.

Research is showing that there are important associations between maternal mood and infant temperament up to one year of age.

This peri-natal mental health project is born form the collaboration between Babybrains and the Essex BabyLab. Together, we want to understand how becoming a parent changes our brains and minds and how our mood and experiences influence our child’s development.

We also want to offer the right peri-natal support so that each child can have the best possible start in life.
