Accommodation

Returning students

Southend Campus

If you're an overseas (non EU) undergraduate, you're guaranteed accommodation if you apply by the deadline and started your course before 2018-19.

If you started your course in 2018-19 and want to apply for returning accommodation for 2019-20, we can't guarantee accommodation but anticipate good availability.

If you are applying for a new course or if you have completed the East 15 Theatre Arts Foundation and have been successful in getting a place on one of their degree programmes, you will need to apply as a new student.

Accommodation application form 2019-20

Intermitting students

If you have withdrawn temporarily from Essex (intermitted) during the first term of the first year of study and decide to return the following academic year, you may re-apply for accommodation.

How to apply

Contact us in January of the year in which you intend to return to your studies.

Living with your friends

You're welcome to request an allocation with your friends. You should list their PRIDs in the 'additional information' field on the application form. Each of your friends must also submit their own separate application and have the same preferences as you. Please note that we cannot guarantee we will be able to allocate you and your friends as a group.

Payment

When you receive an accommodation offer you have one week to accept and pay your £250 advanced rent payment. You will be able to make this payment by credit/debit card as part of the online acceptance process.

If you are not able to pay your advanced rent payment at the point of acceptance, please contact the Student Information Team in the Student Services Hub. Please do not try and pay your advanced rent payment via the student online payment system. We have experienced difficulty tracing such payments in the past and this option has therefore been discontinued.

Terms and conditions

If you accept your accommodation offer you will be entering into a legal contract with Accommodation Essex and you will be liable to pay the rent for your room for the period stated on your offer letter.

Please read our Terms and Conditions of Residence carefully before accepting any offer of accommodation. Contact your Student Services Hub if you have any queries.

Next steps

What you need to do

You will be made an offer of accommodation as soon as possible after you have returned your application.

You must do this before the closing date of 18 January 2019 in order to get the promotional offer. Applications will remain open after 18 January 2019, but they will not be eligible for the promotional offer.

Accepting your offer

You will need to accept your offer of accommodation before its expiry date in order to confirm your allocation for the next academic year. The offer expiry date will be clearly specified in the offer letter.

An accommodation prepayment is no longer required at the point of application. Instead, it will be payable when you accept your offer.

Once you have accepted the offer you have formed a contract which is binding and you will not be able to give notice on the room unless you withdraw from the University.

Paying your advanced rent payment

You will be able to make your advanced rent payment as part of your online acceptance, alternatively, you can contact the Student Services Hub.

Important: Do not try and pay your advanced rent payment separately via Online Student Payments as we will have difficulty in tracing such payments and we may not therefore be able to make you an offer of accommodation.

If you have a debt to the University

Students who have a debt to the university will not be made an offer of accommodation until the debt is cleared. You will be notified if this is the case, and be given an opportunity to make payment to clear this debt. If this is not received we may not be able to proceed with your application.
