Southend Campus

If you're an overseas (non EU) undergraduate, you're guaranteed accommodation if you apply by the deadline and started your course before 2017-18.

 

If you are applying for a new course or if you have completed the East 15 Theatre Arts Foundation and have been successful in getting a place on one of their degree programmes, you will need to apply as a new student.

How to apply 

We anticipate having a small surplus of accommodation for the 2021-22 academic year.

Rooms will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis, in order of priority, until all rooms have been allocated.

Applications will remain open and any further rooms that become available, will be offered throughout the year.

This is not guaranteed accommodation.

Order of priority for surplus accommodation

We will give student priority in the following order:

  • Welfare/Medical Need Undergraduates 
  • Part year incoming Study Abroad and Erasmus Undergraduate students who fall outside the guaranteed quota of available rooms
  • New overseas fees undergraduates
  • New home fees undergraduates
  • Returning study abroad undergraduates (which includes students where their year abroad was cancelled)
  • All other full time undergraduates
  • All part time undergraduates

South Essex College students

We have rooms available for South Essex College students at University Square.

Good news! If apply by 5pm on Friday 19 March 2021, you will receive ¬£500 credit back (which will be paid in December 2021)You can apply after the date above, but you won't qualify for this promotion.

Intermitting students

If you have withdrawn temporarily from Essex (intermitted) during the first term of the first year of study and decide to return the following academic year, you may re-apply for accommodation.

Contact us in January of the year in which you intend to return to your studies.

Living with your friends

You're welcome to request an allocation with your friends. You should list their PRIDs in the 'additional information' field on the application form. Each of your friends must also submit their own separate application and have the same preferences as you. Please note that we cannot guarantee we will be able to allocate you and your friends as a group.

Payment

  • Pay as part of the acceptance process
  • Pay in person or over the phone at the Student Services Hub

If you are not able to pay your advanced rent payment at the point of acceptance, please contact the Student Information Team in the Student Services Hub.

Please do not try and pay your advanced rent payment via the student online payment system. We have experienced difficulty tracing such payments in the past and this option has therefore been discontinued.

Terms and conditions

If you accept your accommodation offer you will be entering into a legal contract with Accommodation Essex and you will be liable to pay the rent for your room for the period stated on your offer letter.

What you need to do

You will be made an offer of accommodation as soon as possible after you have returned your application.

You must do this before the closing date of 19 March 2021 in order to get the promotional offer. Applications will remain open after 19 March 2021, but they will not be eligible for the promotional offer.

Accepting your offer

You will need to accept your offer of accommodation before its expiry date in order to confirm your allocation for the next academic year. The offer expiry date will be clearly specified in the offer letter.

Once you have accepted the offer you have formed a contract which is binding and you will not be able to give notice on the room unless you withdraw from the University.

Paying your advanced rent payment

If you have a debt to the University

Students who have a debt to the university will not be made an offer of accommodation until the debt is cleared. You will be notified if this is the case, and be given an opportunity to make payment to clear this debt. If this is not received we may not be able to proceed with your application.
