Why Essex?

With students from over 140 different countries, Essex is the world in one place. We currently have 157 students from Latin America studying at the University.
Camila Valenzuela
I chose my options based on alumni’s opinions, international and national ranking, opportunities in my field, professors and also the environment. I fell in love with all the things and opportunities that Essex had for me and also for my husband who decided to come with me as a huge support in this adventure. There was also the option of applying for scholarships provided by the university. I got ‘’Academic Excellence International Masters’ scholarship’’.
Now I’m doing an MA in Applied Linguistics in one of the best universities in this field. The language and linguistics department is simply amazing and professors are always supportive and open to new ideas and feedback. My husband has a great chance to study English here at university for free during the whole year, which is a great opportunity as well.
So far, I have been enjoying everything. There are so many activities every week and even during weekends.
I am surrounded by different cultures, my best friends here are from China, Malaysia, England, and Slovakia. This is a great opportunity for people like me who love languages because you have the chance to learn a new language with your friends. I’m also taking French classes in ‘’Languages for All’’, highly recommended. You are learning a new language and at the same time, you meet even more people from different programmes.
