Why Essex?

Hello, we are delighted that you're considering studying with us.

Essex has a long history of welcoming students from Bulgaria to join our diverse community of over 135 different nationalities. Over a third of our student population are from outside of the UK so you’ll feel right at home.

Andrea from Bulgaria
I made friends with students from all over the world, many of which I keep in touch with today! I always felt at home during my studies there, welcomed and taken care of. The quality of education is of the highest level and the teachers are very helpful and friendly. Colchester campus also offers many opportunities in terms of sports, partying, student societies and employment. Some tips from me: Probably you would never guess, but my favourite place to hang out was the library! Apart from studying, it is a great place to meet fellow students and socialise. And everyone remembers their first time on the paternoster!

I chose to study here at Essex because the university enabled me to take the modules which I had always wanted to study without restricting me in any way. I'm studying Modern Languages (German and Spanish) and Linguistics, and I cannot imagine being at a different university. The professors and my classmates are some of the most wonderful people I have met in my life. They inspire me to do my best and encourage me to achieve my goals. The university has the most beautiful natural park, I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. Whenever I'm feeling stressed, I take a walk around campus. In the summer, I like to sit on one of the benches and read. It's truly the most calming atmosphere for studying.

When I first arrived I was very scared! However, I met my thirteen amazing flatmates and life became easier. During Freshers’ week I met amazing people and started creating friendships. Most of the people at Essex are very kind and open-minded so communication is very easy. In my department everything was well organised since the very beginning. As I had four lectures and four classes during the week it was not difficult to organise my time. I could easily study 3-4 hours every day during the week and still have time for social activities. My time in Essex has been a unique experience. It wouldn’t be the same without my friends.
