Join us at our Postgraduate Open Evening on Thursday 19 May and discover more about postgraduate study at Essex.


Meet students, academics, and staff from our student services, ask questions and get the answers you need about things such as funding and accommodation, and learn more by attending talks on topics such as applying to Essex, funding your studies and student experience.

Our student ambassadors will be on hand to show you around our Colchester Campus as well as giving you the opportunity to view inside some of our student accommodation.

Book your place at our Postgraduate Open Evening to learn more about studying a postgraduate degree at Essex and discover our campus. Schedule for the evening

4.00pm - Arrival and check-in

From 4.00pm you can check into the event in the Upper Foyer of the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall.

Our staff will check you into the event and will give you all the help and guidance you need about what's going on and where to go. Just make sure you have booked in advance.

Please join us for a drink and a chat throughout the evening if you cannot make the whole event.

4.15pm - Welcome to Essex 

Professor Andrew Canessa, Faculty Dean Postgraduate (Social Sciences), will give you a warm welcome to our Colchester Campus and will introduce you to the University of Essex. This talk will be perfect if you'd like to find out more about being a postgraduate student at Essex. You will also find out more about the opportunities that our postgraduate students can be involved in!

4.45pm - Postgraduate Funding for UK Applicants 

In this talk Keeley Alvarez from our Student Recruitment Team will outline the many ways in which you can pay for your postgraduate course. We'll discuss sources of funding including tuition fee loans, discounts, scholarships, studentships and more. 

5.15pm - Postgraduate Student Experience

If you'd like to find out more about what life as an Essex postgraduate student is really like, join Ej-Francis Caris-Hamer (PGR student and SU Convenor) at this talk.

5.45pm - Postgraduate Study in our School of Health and Social Care

If you're interested in studying one of our many health and social care courses, come along to this session and learn more about what we can do for you. We teach courses on speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, social work, oral health sciences, clinical psychology, psychological wellbeing, and more! 

6.15pm - Employability and Careers

In this session we'll discuss the employability modules which are embedded into many of our courses, the work placement opportunities which are optional for some courses, as well as the student development services that the University provides in order to improve the employability of all of our students.

Student Services

From 4.00pm, members of staff from many of our Student Services will be available for you to chat with, including Admissions, Accommodation, and Funding.

Academic Departments

From 4.00pm, many of our academic departments will be available for you to chat with and ask questions about studying at Essex, the courses we offer, life in an academic department, and much more. Please note that Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Government, Life Sciences, and Edge Hotel School will not be attending the evening and Speech and Language Therapy are finishing at 7.00pm.




Campus and Accommodation Tours

During this event we'll be running campus and accommodation tours. These will give you the chance to have a look around our Colchester Campus and see some of our student accommodation. We have tours of our North Towers, South Towers and Meadows accommodation. You'll be taken on the tour by one of our fantastic student ambassadors, who are current Essex students. Feel free to ask them lots of questions about life at Essex as they show you around!


Prosecco, soft drinks and refreshments will be available for you free-of-charge.

Travelling to our Colchester Campus

By car

If you are travelling to the campus by car, please use the University’s address below and park in ‘Valley Car Park’ just off of Boundary Road. There will be additional signage to direct you in the correct parking area on the day. Parking will be free for this event.

By train


If you have travelled by train, the following bus routes will take you to our Colchester Campus.


From Colchester North Station: S1. Route map can be found here.


The buses run every 15 to 20 minutes from Colchester North Station, taking you through Colchester Town Centre, our closest town to campus.

COVID-19 safety when visiting our Colchester Campus

To keep our staff, students and visitors safe, we have a number of additional measures on campus to protect our community from COVID-19. Visitors are encouraged to wear a face covering in communal indoor areas or when moving around congested areas. Please do not travel to our Colchester Campus if you have symptoms of COVID-19.
