What does research tell us about the reasons that young women do - and do not - undertake careers in STEM? What can schools and university departments do to help women advance? Advancing Women in STEM

Women in Science and Engineering, the Institute of Physics, and the London Mathematical Society have all addressed such questions in the last four years. This interactive seminar is led by Dr Cathy Smith who recently completed a project identifying strategies used by schools with high girls’ participation in mathematics.  The seminar addresses three aims: outlining findings from research and employer reports; an interactive myth-busting discussion; and recommendations for good practice.
