Students at our partner institution Chula ISE can spend a year of their degree studying in our School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE).
The Partnership offer with Chula and the University of Essex is a 3(CT) +1 degree, making it an accelerated Masters. A standard Bachelors degree in Thailand is four years. But with our accelerated Masters programme you can complete your degree in four years, and finish with a Masters qualification.
Studying abroad for a year has a host of benefits. You can enhance your English language skills, and experience living in a different country. You will be taught by expert academics from outside your institution, and will have opportunities to meet and network with students and experts in your field of interest.
The School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering is based in our Colchester Campus, with good links to London via Colchester train station. The Colchester Campus has all amenities (accommodation, shops, and teaching space) on one site within easy walking distance.
We provide six computer laboratories for the exclusive use of CSEE students, which run a range of specialist software including Matlab and C++.
We also have specialist facilities for research into areas including non-invasive brain-computer interfaces, intelligent environments, robotics, optoelectronics, video, RF and MW, printed circuit milling, and semiconductors. These facilities may be used during teaching, or may be accessed for work on projects throughout the year.
Our School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering has a large pool of external contacts; ranging from companies providing robots for the media industry, through vehicle diagnostics, to the transforming of unstructured data.
These companies work with us and our students to provide advice, placements and eventually graduate opportunities.
We are one of the leading universities in the East of England and London for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), the flagship Innovate UK programme. KTPs are an established and successful initiative, funded by Innovate UK and Research Councils that bring together businesses with research expertise.
Postgraduate students may benefit from our excellent links with industry, including our Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, by gaining invaluable industry contacts, careers advice and even work placements.
Our School is a friendly and supportive community of staff and students, many of whom have travelled from other countries to work and study at the University of Essex. We know how hard it can be to move abroad for study, and we're here to help you with the transition.
In the wider University, the Students' Union is home to over forty sports teams and a broad collection of student-run societies. This includes our Thai International Society, which holds a range of events through the year such as cooking classes, hangouts, and occasional temple visits to London.
