Why Take Part in UKES?

The UK Engagement Survey (UKES) is a great opportunity to get your voice heard and a great way for us to work with all our students to create a brighter future for our university.

This survey is open to all first, second, and some third-year undergraduate students. If you’re eligible, you will already have received an email inviting you to complete the survey. Don’t worry if you’ve lost it, you can also complete the survey online. Just logon using your Essex username. The password will be your date of birth.

The survey is your chance to have your say about your time at Essex, by giving us feedback about your course and your wider learning experience. This valuable information allows us to make plans to improve the university and better cater to our students’ needs. This information can have a substantial impact on the future of the university, and it can positively affect the next generation of students. It is quick and easy to complete, and the feedback you give is completely confidential and anonymous.

Additionally, with every survey which is completed, the university donates £1 to charity! This year, we will be supporting the Students’ Union’s chosen charities, which are the Centre for Action on Rape and Abuse in Essex (CARA) and North East Essex Minds, who support individuals with their mental health. This means that if you choose to complete the UKES survey today, you will not only help your fellow students, but you will also be contributing to the wider community.

The questions in the survey are divided into the following groups: critical thinking, learning with others, communicating with faculty, reflecting and connecting, course difficulty, research involvement, staff-student interaction, and skill development. After each section, you will be asked for any further comments on the topics discussed, which can really help us to learn more about your experiences as a student.
