Employee Relations Operations team

The Employee Relations Operations team is headed by Peter Harrington and is a professionally qualified team providing advice and guidance to staff and managers on a range of enquiries relating to their employment at the University. We work with our colleagues across People & Culture to develop capacity and capability of staff and support managers by providing a range of solutions the enable them to make decisions.

Senior Employee Relations Advisers

  • Providing HR support relating to a variety of employment issues.
  • Coach and support managers on adopting good HR practice by offering effective HR advice through the interpretation of current employment and case law, best practice and relevant policies.
  • Advice to managers on employee relations cases e.g. sickness, disciplinary, capability etc, supporting them through investigations, in line with relevant policies and procedures, REF, HERA evaluations, ill health cases.
  • Support for Athena Swan.

  • Providing assistance with flexible working requests.
  • Maternity/paternity/parental leave enquiries.
  • General absence concerns.
  • RTW meetings.
  • General HR enquiries.
  • ASC and probation monitoring.
  • Honorary titles.
  • Individual Access Arrangements form.
  • Tier 4 reporting.
  • Flexible benefits.

The team consists of:

Employee Relations Assistants

  • Help with general HR queries including annual leave, campus cards, RTW queries etc.
  • Employee records, including processing any contract changes, new starters, absence processing and leavers.
