Contractor health and safety
The Estate Management Health and Safety team provides guidance, coaching, advice and instruction to enable all staff within Estate Management to carry out their own health and Safety responsibilities, especially those with contractor management responsibility.
We are committed to ensuring that works undertaken, commissioned or managed by Estate Management for our customers are carried out in a safe and healthy environment for all staff, students, members of public and contractors.

E-Permits
This section only applies to those planning to work for Estates Maintenance, Capital and Development. Any other departments will continue to use the old paper based system until they are transferred over. Irrespective of permit type, the PTW manual, section 5 will give you the main considerations for producing RA/MS.
University of Essex now operates an E-Permit system for contractors carrying out work on-site. Please register using the button below using the following template:-
- Company Details - Including company name, Emergency Telephone number and Email
- Company Users – These are the system users who can apply to carry out work on-site. These will be the company employees who are applying for a permit
- Company Workers – These are any of the engineers or contractors who will be physically coming onto site and will be working. (There will be instances where Users may also be workers)
Following the registration of the above details, users will receive their login details to the E-Permit system. After receiving login details, users will be able to click on the link below to apply to work on site.
Please note, applications will only be entertained if 3 working days’ notice is given and an appropriate Risk Assessment and Method Statement is attached to the application Users must read the applicable section in the ‘Permit to Work Manual’ before writing their RA/MS.’
