EEPRU is host to the ESNEFT long covid project that started to recruit patient participants in 2020. This ongoing study provides an important database for analysis that seek to understand the course of long covid, vulnerability to it, and prognostic factors in recovery.

Dr Richard Smith is a consultant nephrologist and clinical director of Research at ESNEFT. He's been involved in the Long COVID research study as a co-investigator since the outset and is taking over as the chief investigator from Kate Harrall.
