The International Research Society for Public Management (IRSPM) has elected Professor Ileana Steccolini from Essex Business School as their President from April 2022.

The Society is devoted to the advancement of public management studies and its journal, Public Management Review, is internationally renowned as a top-tier journal.

Professor Steccolini said: “I am delighted to have been elected president of IRSPM, a vibrant, global scientific society. The Society has proven strong thought leadership across public leadership, government accountability, citizens’ participation, and the motivation of public servants to serve their communities.

“These are some of the areas that make a crucial difference in our everyday lives, as well as in anticipating and tackling the consequences of global crises, such as pandemics, wars, migrations, or climate change.

“I look forward to continuing to strengthen the contribution our Society is offering to our understanding of the difference public management, governance and accountability can make to our societies and economies. In doing so, we will also need to embrace new ways of interacting and interpreting the Society’s role as we enter a post-covid, climate-change aware, world.”

Professor Neil Kellard, Dean of Essex Business School, said: “Professor Steccolini’s election as President of the IRSPM is a testament to her leading role internationally in the area of public administration and public sector accounting.

“Professor Steccolini’s vision to understand and improve governance and accountability in the public sector is a clarion call in our challenging times.”
