Entry requirements

Undergraduate

Previous university/college study is required in addition to local high school qualifications for our Undergraduate Bachelor degree courses.
We accept a number of international qualifications, including the International Baccalaureate with the majority of our courses requiring a grade between 29 - 32 or the SAT with the majority of our courses requiring a minimum of 1100 out of 1600 with 550 in each test.

Postgraduate Taught

Many of our Postgraduate Taught Masters will consider applicants with 12/20 or above, 3.5/5 or above, or 6/9 or above from Licenciatura. Some courses and departments may have higher entry requirements as well as other admissions criteria. Please see individual courses for more information or email our admissions team at pgadmit@essex.ac.uk.

Postgraduate Research

For entry to Research degrees, please refer to the entry requirements for the course that you are interested in. 
An undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK 2:2 (see the information above), and a master’s degree with a good grade is required for most PhD programmes, in addition to a well-developed research proposal in a field in which we can offer supervision. Please have a read through our information for PhD applicants and check the course details for your chosen programme for further information about entry criteria.

Scholarships and funding

Our Latin America Scholarship scheme offers £5,000 scholarships to undergraduate students from Venezuela. In order to qualify for this scholarship, applicants must actively make Essex their firm choice by 15 September 2024. Please visit the link for further details about deadlines and eligibility. 

Our Academic Excellence International Masters Scholarship scheme offers a £4,000 tuition fee discount to masters students from Venezuela achieving 15/20 in their undergraduate degree. Please visit the link for further details about eligibility. 

We offer two Chevening scholarships to students from across Latin America studying a one-year taught masters course in any subject at Essex. Each scholarship is worth 100% of the tuition fee. Please check the Chevening website for information for 2024 entry. 

Our Latin America and The Caribbean Translation Scholarship offers £5,000 scholarships to five successful applicants from the region studying MA Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling or MA Translation and Professional Practice (Spanish or Portuguese strands only). The scholarship application deadline is 30 June 2024. Terms and conditions apply.

En mi experiencia la Universidad de Essex ha colmado mis expectativas. Como presidente de la sociedad latinoamericana he conocido a personas no solo de Uruguay sino del resto de Latinoamérica. En el área de Ciencias políticas, la Universidad está catalogada como unas de las mejores del Reino Unido. En cualquiera que sea la carrera que elijas el nivel es muy bueno. La cantidad de personas del todo el mundo que vienen a estudiar a Essex es increíble Tiene una gran biblioteca en la cual hay una gran variedad de temas y gran disponibilidad de libros. De no tener el libro puedes hablar con personas del staff y tenerlo en muy poco tiempo! Para los que les gusta las películas, en la biblioteca hay una gran variedad de películas en DVD. Se puede vivir dentro del campus o fuera de él. Personalmente prefiero vivir dentro del campus ya que aparte de tu curso podes conocer a muchas personas en los diferentes lugares que la universidad dispone. Poder compartir tradiciones, perspectivas del mundo que vivimos e incluso probar comidas que jamás había probado antes. La ubicación de Colchester es ideal porque está a una hora de bus de Stansted (aeropuerto que conecta con toda Europa) y a una hora en tren del centro de Londres. Y si te gustan los pueblos puedes visitar Wivenhoe  a 5 min. caminando del campus en donde se puede conseguir Dulce de Leche.
