Why Essex?

With students from over 140 different countries, Essex is the world in one place. We're top 20 for the most international student community in the THE World University Rankings 2018.
Dmitry from Russia
I came to this country when I was 16 years old and everything was so new to me. The Russia educational system is so different to here. In the UK you have a lot more freedom surrounding what you want to study.

Essex has definitely lived up to my expectations. I came to Essex and it was a completely clean sheet. I’ve been able to write my story whilst I’ve been here; I’ve developed as a person and taken part in so many different activities, student union societies and sports. It was about finding myself and who I am.

I am so grateful to Essex, for all the opportunities that I have been given.
I really feel like I have evolved as a person.
Dmitry Christie MSC INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS
What attracted me to Essex was the academic programme and the fact that it is a campus based university. Now I live on campus in William Morris Tower and I like it there. Although it is a different experience from when I lived in Oxford for two years with a host family, it has proven equally enjoyable. My advice to any new student would be to take as many subjects as possible and to join some students’ societies.
