Alicia Alfaro
Hello! My name is Alicia and I am originally from Lima, Peru. The reason I chose Essex was mainly due to its distinctive course structure, especially in the department of Language and Linguistics, as it provided a variety and flexibility of modules I had not found in other universities. Secondly, Essex has such great cultural diversity; it embraces all that makes one unique. We have numerous societies, events and exciting student-led activities that are great fun to be a part off. The sceneries are absolutely stunning, as there is a contrast between nature and city-life landscapes, which provides a safe and peaceful environment to be in, the ability to offer such a balanced work-social experience, but most of all, the yummy coffee you can find at The Greenhouse. Essex has welcomed me with open arms, believed in my capabilities and allowed me to put them into good use. Currently, I am working as a Student Ambassador and have had previous experience working with the Student Union, as well as its volunteering team, who hold various projects to give back to our community. I strongly believe the University of Essex is a place where you can explore your full potential, there are endless opportunities and people who are more than willing to guide you in the process.
