Why Essex?

Essex has a long history of welcoming students from Mexico. With students from over 140 different countries, Essex is the world in one place.
Amongst our notable alumni is Rodolfo Neri Vela, Mexico’s first and only astronaut to have travelled into space. Rodolfo received a Master’s degree in science, specialised in telecommunications systems, in 1976.

I first joined the University of Essex to take an MA in Latin American Government and Politics and after completing it I decided to stay on and complete a PhD which was on social movements in Mexico. I was attracted by studying at Essex as it is a very well-known university in Mexico. As a PhD student I have an excellent supervisor who is very supportive. They really care about my work and if I need to consult them they are always around..
I was President of the Mexican Society at the University and we had over 300 members from many different countries. Essex comprehends the needs of overseas students and as a result is very multi-cultural. There are great facilities and the most interesting people to meet.
