Essex Law School Welcome Week 2023

Come and find out more about your course, meet key members of staff like your personal tutor, and meet the people you’re going to be studying with.

Your Welcome week will be a great opportunity to meet some key members of staff such as your personal tutor/academic coach and give you the chance to speak with some of your fellow students who will be studying on your course with you. We expect you to attend as you will receive important information to help you start your University experience.

You will also have the chance to hear about our Essex Law Clinic and Human Rights Centre Clinic (where current students work on real cases and provide advice to members of the public), meet current Second and Third year students and get advice about what studying Law is like, and how to use your time at Essex to your advantage to get the best degree and experience possible.

Undergraduates

• Find out about your School, the people you'll be working with and the upcoming year at Essex. You will receive an email stating whether you are to attend either the morning session or the afternoon session. Please check your emails carefully, you do not need to attend both sessions.

• Please check your Essex emails in the lead up to welcome week of which session you have been allocated.
• This is the perfect time to ask questions and find out more about your studies, student wellbeing and student support services. 

• An opportunity to socialise with students and staff in the School (catering includes vegan and gluten-free options).

French Law Students Only

• Students undertaking LLB English and French Law are required to attend all relevant welcome events organised by Essex Law School as well as this induction.
• Lunch will be provided (catering includes vegan and gluten-free options).

Law Degree Transfer Programme (BAC) Students Only

• Students undertaking the Law degree transfer programme are required to attend all relevant welcome events organised by Essex Law School as well as this induction.

• Your chance to meet with your peers and gain an insight into Essex Law School.
• You will be meeting with staff who will help and guide you throughout the upcoming academic year.
• Talks will be given by the Dean of the School, Postgraduate Director, Academic Skills lead, Academic Liaison Librarian and Skills for Success.
• There will also be course specific inductions, please attend the ones relevant to you and the course you are registered on, these optional events will be marked with an *.
