Students are often exposed to or involved in substance misuse during their time at university, with many students unaware of the risks involved in abusing substances.

Open Road is a charity which supports people with substance misuse issues and helps them on their road to recovery across Essex. Open Road is working in partnership with the University of Essex to offer students support with their substance use, increasing students’ knowledge around different types of substances and their respective effects.

Starting in the Autumn Term 2022, Open Road will provide an experienced specialist substance misuse worker, based on the Colchester Campus, who will offer 1:1 support for students, as well as delivering harm minimisation and group-based interventions.

The service will complement the Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service plus other University teams and will be completely confidential, giving the students access to an open and non-judgemental discussion about substances.

For further information or if you would like support please contact the Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service by emailing wellbeing@essex.ac.uk or by completing our online appointment request form. Alternatively, come along to one of our drop-in sessions available on each campus.
