Biography

Anil joined the Essex School of Law and Human Rights Centre in September 2015. Her main research interests are in the fields of international investment law and business and human rights. She studied law at Marmara University in Turkey and she is a non-practising lawyer at the Istanbul Bar Association. She holds an LLM in International Trade Law and a PhD in Law from the University of Essex. Her PhD research explored the nationality of corporate investors under international investment law. Before joining the School of Law, she worked as a Lecturer at the Brighton Business School. Anil leads several projects within the Essex Business and Human Rights Project. Her most recent work with the EBHR focused on improving paths to accountability for human rights and labour violations in global supply chains. This work resulted in a legal guide aimed to assist practitioners and civil society in developing legal claims in this area (accessible at https://www1.essex.ac.uk/ebhr/documents/Improving-Paths-to-Accountability-for-Human%20Rights-Abuses-in-the-Global-Supply-chains-A-Legal-Guide.pdf)
