Profile
Biography
I am a Lecturer in Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex, as well as co-director, alongside Dr Jordan Osserman, of the BA in Psychoanalytic and Psychosocial Studies. I teach and write about psychoanalysis, colonialism, 'race' and racism. I have published articles and chapters on Frantz Fanon, Octave Mannoni, Sigmund Freud, Géza Róheim, as well as on colonialism and psychoanalysis. I am currently working on a monograph called 'The Cannibal Trope: Genealogies of a Colonial Concept in Psychoanalysis'. Alongside Professor Stephen Frosh and Dr Julie Walsh, I am co-editor in chief of the first Handbook of Psychosocial Studies, to be published by Palgrave in 2024. I welcome proposals for PhDs on: psychoanalysis and colonialism, Melanie Klein, Sigmund Freud, Octave Mannoni, Frantz Fanon, Géza Róheim, Herbert Marcuse; British object relations; savagery/monstrosity/animality/humanness and psychoanalysis; psychoanalytic anthropology; psychoanalysis, racism, and antiblackness; psychosocial methodologies. I am also a trainee psychodynamic psychotherapist at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust.
