Profile

Biography

Before my PhD study, I worked as university lecturer (2019-2022), market researcher (2016- 2019), and journalist (2009-2011). Various experiences and autoethnography are excellent ways to explore the world. Sociology offers me a possibility to understand both myself and the society. When I started to read Max Weber's book "The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism", I got attracted by this subject. Therefore, I chose to study for my master's degree in Germany and I developed my main research interests in Economic Sociology, Sociology of Work and Globalisation. My Master's Thesis combines the informal labour market, the German higher education system and social adaptation among overseas Chinese students. Through the investigation of term-time employment of mine and other Chinese students, I discussed the strategies they applied for social adaptation. Since I have studied the employees and labour market, why don't I just start with employers and know more about employers' organisations? Here I am, at University of Essex! My PhD research topic is about ethnic entrepreneurship and migrant organisations, such as chambers of commerce. How do migrant organisations make a difference?
