Thesis

Language Variation and Change in the Cockney Diaspora

I am interested in language variation and change across Southeast England, in particular, in the context of the “Cockney Diaspora” to Essex. I research how south-eastern linguistic features are both perceived and produced and how this relates to firstly, social and structural changes and secondly, factors such as age, gender, class, ethnicity and identity.
