Profile

Biography

I started my academic career in 2005 at Shanghai University (China) before moving to the University of Essex in 2007 as a Lecturer, where after two years I took over the directorship of the International Diploma courses.I am aSenior Lecturer in Management, Marketing and Entrepreneurshipand I will be taking onthe role of Deputy Dean Education for theHumanities Faculty fromJanuary 2018. In 2013 I became a Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and in 2016 I achieved Fellowship of the Leadership Foundation and became part of the national LF Reference Group. Initially focused on cross-cultural business and expatriates, my research interests now lie in the intersections between identity, race, the body, gender, sexuality and processes of organising, as recently investigated in studies focused on aspects such as non-binary gender identities in SMEs, motherhood and miscarriage in organisations, and ethnic discrimination in entrepreneurial funding. These themes have been explored through organisational, sociological and psychoanalytic theories stemming from the work of Foucault, Bauman, Lazarus and Butler inter alia. I also have an interest in qualitative methods, particularly in autoethnography, which I often use together with semi-structured interviews and the analysis of secondary texts like films in order to explore concepts and contexts. I serve as an article reviewer for various journals, as a member of the Board of the Standing Conference of Organizational Symbolism (SCOS) and as an editor of the PuntOorg book series and international journal. PhD students (completed): Costanza Cardullo: Formality and Informality in delegation processes of family businesses (with L.M. Sicca) Davide Bizjak: Organizing diversity in organizations: from liminality to inclusion (with L.M. Sicca)
