Profile

Biography

Dr Chris Antonopoulos has been at the University of Essex since September 2015, where he is involved in teaching students from the Department of Mathematical Sciences and Essex Business School, as well as carrying out research in applied mathematics, dynamical systems, chaos theory, complex systems and networks, and computational neuroscience. He was educated at the Universities of Crete and Patras, Greece. In particular, he studied for a BSc in Mathematics (Crete), an MSc in dynamical systems and differential equations (Patras), and a PhD in the stability and chaos in Hamiltonian systems of many degrees of freedom: From classical to statistical mechanics (Patras). He did postdoctoral work on the statistical and dynamical properties of multi-dimensional Hamiltonian systems, dynamical systems, chaos theory, computational neuroscience, information theory, complex systems, complex networks and network inference. Here, the aim is to develop novel mathematical theories and methodologies to study and understand in depth the inner workings of complex systems such as the brain, financial markets, etc. He has established an extended network of collaborator from Universities and Institutions from across the UK and around the world, to develop novel mathematical theories and methodologies to study complex systems such as the brain, financial markets, etc. In all areas, he seeks to use dynamical systems, chaos and network theory, and mathematical modelling to understand these systems better. He has also taken on a variety of administrative duties, including personal tutor, capstone project officer, green impact champion, student experience officer, undergraduate project administrator, student experience officer, open day/visit day team member, deputy employability and development director, and computer user's representative. Beyond Academia, he likes listening to classical music, enjoys good food with friends, travelling, walking, cinema and the arts.
