Profile

Biography

Yuchen’s research focuses on the integration of positive psychology into instructed second language acquisition, aiming to foster positive developmental outcomes in both language learning and psychological well-being. Her PhD research project employed a mixed-method, quasi-experimental design and delved into the impact of positive psychology-infused, English writing strategy instruction on Chinese learners’ writing product, strategy use, and hope. During her doctoral studies, Yuchen also served as a research assistant for a project led by Dr Sonia Ilie, centring on widening participation in higher education. In this role, Yuchen was responsible for validating the Access and Success Questionnaire (ASQ). She conducted introspective interviews with participants of different age groups and with different sociocultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, analysed data, and provided feedback on item construction.
