I am an experimental social psychologist. My research mainly concerns the study of emotion in context of interpersonal judgment and decision making. Within these areas I have been particularly active in the study of boredom and nostalgia. I received my Bachelor's and Research Master's degrees in psychology from Tilburg University in 2006 and 2008, respectively. In 2011, I completed my PhD degree at the University of Limerick, investigating the psychological signature and consequences of boredom. This was followed by a post as Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in psychology. In April 2013, I joined the School of Psychology of the University of Southampton as Research Fellow and was Lecturer in the Psychology Department of King's College London from September 2015 to November 2019. I joined the Department of Psychology at the University of Essex in November 2019. I currently co-supervise the following PhD students: Yuen Yan (Katy) Tam King's College London Project: The unbearable boredom of being: Examining the relations between boredom beliefs, experience, and coping Shilei Chen King's College London Project: How self-objectification affects women's prosocial behaviors Sahana Shankar King's College London Project: Overcoming the era of #FakeNews: A contingency learning approach Robert MacRory-Crowley University of Limerick Project: Physical, verbal and behavioral cues in person perception Muireann O’Dea University of Limerick Project: Taking meaning on bored: Character strengths prevent boredom by imbuing life with meaning
