Profile

Biography

I have been a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) of Business and Management at the University of Essex since October 2022, after completing my PhD from the University of Hong Kong in July 2022. I am equally committed to and have an excellent record of accomplishment in research, teaching, and internal and external leadership and citizenship. My research sits at the intersection of Human Resource Management, (Counter)Productive Organizational Behaviours, and Knowledge Management. The primary theme of my current research is improving employee well-being and sustainability-oriented performance. I investigate the managerial practices, factors, and complex interactions between them that can affect employee well-being and sustainability-oriented performance (non)favourably. I welcome enquiries from potential PhD students on this theme. I have published impactful research studies on the above theme in renowned subject-matter journals, including but not limited to The International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Business Research (Web of Science ESI Top 1% Highly Cited Articles), Technovation, Journal of Small Business Management, the Journal of Knowledge Management, Management Decision, and Journal of Organizational Effectiveness: People & Performance, amongst others. My research papers have achieved several distinctions, including the three Web of Science ESI Top 1% Highly Cited Articles, Best Research Postgraduate Paper Award, and the Journal’s Most Downloaded Articles in a year. Further, my research has appeared in the European Union’s 2020 Innovation Policy Report. I have been PI and Co-I of several grants amounting to more than 100,000 US Dollars from the Gulf University of Science and Technology, Kuwait, the University of Hong Kong, and King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia. I am an incoming Associate Editor of the International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management (CABS 1*) and an Executive Editor of Knowledge Management & E-Learning, a Web of Science- and Scopus-indexed journal published by the University of Hong Kong. Further, I am an editorial advisory board member of academic and practitioner journals, including Management Decision (CABS 2* and one of the long-running journals of the management field), Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development (CABS 2*), and International Journal of HRD: Practice, Policy & Research. I am an ad-hoc peer-reviewer for several journals, including but not limited to the Human Resource Management (USA), The International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Business Research, and Technovation. I was awarded the Publons/Web of Science Top Peer-review Award in 2018. I am an adjunct faculty member in the Faculty of Management at the University of Wah in Pakistan to advise on research activities. I love collaborating and helping research academics. Interested research academics should always feel free to email me. I am highly committed to student in-class and out-of-class learning support, learning outcomes, and employment outcomes. To these ends, I use a socio-cognitive constructivist approach in my teaching and assessment activities, where the student is treated as an active, novice learner and technology aids learning. Hence, I use several individual and group activities incorporating technology, individual and group reflection, and application of knowledge, such as gamified e-quizzes and individual and group discussion and presentation. I am the module leader of New Venture Creation, Business Model Innovation, and Professional and Academic Development at the University of Essex. Further, I teach and assess for other modules, such as Strategic Management and Business Model Innovation. I served as the Module Co-leader and Lecturer of Knowledge Management for the master’s in Library & Information Management program at the University of Hong Kong. I was recognized as one of the Students-Nominated Most Inspiring Teachers for my approach to teaching and learning at the Excellence in Education Award on November 3, 2023. I have received the renowned Advance HE Fellowship (formerly HEA) since February 2024. I have published highly cited research on gamified e-learning in world-leading education journals, such as Computers & Education (Web of Science ESI Top 1% Highly Cited Article) and Educational Research Review (Web of Science ESI Top Highly Cited Article). I do external examinations for modules and PhD theses for several international universities, including the Ulster University (2024-2027), University of Wah (2024), COMSATS University Islamabad (2022), Qurtuba University (2023), and Khushal Khan Khattak University (2023). My life is not limited to academia 😊. In my leisure time, I like running, reading, and enjoying the company of my favourite people.
